What are we about
After working in the industry for the better part of 15 years, we understand that unmanned systems is a fast moving business. To be successful, you have to find good talent and you have to be able to go from idea to prototype in a short amount of time. Hiring a dedicated staff is expensive, requires training, constant management, etc. and in our experience that slows down the stuff that needs to get done, ENGINEERING!
Drones From Scratch was created as an agile engineering services group to enable our clients to reach out with a problem and let us solve it in a timely manner, at a controlled cost and with all the documentation and assistance you need to move into production. We can even handle prototyping and small production runs in house.
Embedded Software
Providing expertise in embedded Linux and microcontrollers, our team is comfortable working with standard UxV prototcols and microservices including MAVLink, ArduPilot, PX4, ROS and more.
Printed Circuit Board Design
We have a long history of making complex autopilots with embedded compute systems to support ArduPilot and PX4. We specialize in making bespoke, vehicle-specific variants, adding integrated peripherals, power subsystems, GNSS systems and more.
Mechanical Design
Custom enclosures, housings and other mechanical designs integrated with custom electronics systems. Experts in CNC, additive manufacturing, manufacturing-for-cost, and low-volume manufacturing techniques.
Rapid Prototyping
We have manufacturing partners on standby and can support all your prototype needs and offer full transition assistance from prototype to full production.
Software
We have years of experience customizing QGroundControl for specific use cases, implementing media pipelines, handling cloud services, VPNs, cellular connectivity, satcom connectivity and remote video distribution. We can guide you through TAK and ATAK solutions.
Security
Our team is based in the US and consists only of US person. We can support full NDAA-compliant prototyping and manufacturing. We have a long history of service to defense, law-enforcement and intelligence agencies.
We are easy to work with, here’s how it works
1. Contact us with your problem
Head over to the contact page and send us some information. Provide as much detail as you'd like and let us know how you'd like us to follow up, with a meeting, phone call, email, etc.
2. We'll reach out
We'll get the information we need from you to develop a proposal. This process may involve signing an NDA between the two companies.
3. We send a proposal
Depending on the scope of the work, we work under either fixed-price contracts, or cost-recovery contracts. Which method depends on the type of work, what accounting system works best for the customer and many other factors.
4. The magic happens
Once the proposal is signed, we get to work. Our deliveries can include anything from documentation, working prototypes or even small production runs with continued manufacturing capacity.
5. Payment
For private parties, we require a deposit to kick off a project, and then will invoice monthly or at the end of the project. For government parties, we can accept NET30 contracts. Please contact us for CAGE/UEI.
